Just to clarify. Although I am from Guernsey I am classified as non-UK citizen, non-UK resident (as stated in my BRITISH passport).
Many people (including most MPs) do not seem to understand that whilst we are not part of the UK we are British.
My fore-fathers fought in the British Navy in both World Wars, however my family starved at the hands of the Germans when our Islands were occupied in 1940. We were 'liberated' by the British forces 5 years later, almost a year after Northern France.
So it seems we can fight and die for Britain but when we need their backing they leave us to the vultures. Thanks Gordon Brown!

I have worked many years for British companies in many countries, never been a burden on anybody, and now this. How long will it take for them to admit that they made a mistake (thats the difficult part) and make good?
Agree with both. All the evidence is, a high proportion us are just ordinary British people, outside of the UK. We wanted to leave our money, in sterling, somewhere "British". It depends what the purpose of the poll is. If the intention is simply to highlight the high proportion of UK residents in support of your campaign to obtain 100% guarantee from Alistair Darling, OK. But then that is at the exclusion of all others. I would certainly be interested to see the proportion of IOM residents, and maybe we Manxies should be canvassing Alan Bell for a 100% guarantee for locals!
I can't really cater for IoM citizen, if that's the right description, without making things very complex - I hope you will accept being lumped together under "non-UK".

The people of the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands are British Citizens just the same as the people of the UK, with citizenship law being an exclusive competence of the UK government - although 'UK citizen' here could be read as "British citizen with links to the UK".
If Expat was to renew his passport on the Isle of Man, he too would get one reading 'British Islands - Isle of Man' on the front, with a big Isle of Man coat of arms on the cover. It's just a distinctive design of passport issued by the Island's passport office, rather than stating anything special about the holder.

Because the Isle of Man is not a full member of the EU, anyone holding a Manx passport is not entitled to work freely in the EU, and is not entitled to free medical cover as we are not a party to the European Health Insurance Card scheme. No doubt there are other nuances as well. The Isle of Man is not part of the UK, but is part of Great Britain!

The restriction on working in the EU is a result of not having a link to the UK either directly, or through either parent or any grandparent (link being having lived there for a certain amount of time). It has nothing to do with the passport, and is a stamp that is placed within either a Manx-cover or a UK-cover passport.
For obvious reasons, most 'Manx' passport holders do not have this stamp.
The EU medical card is again nothing to do with passport, but it due to normal place of residence. Anybody resident in the Isle of Man is not eligible. Someone with a 'Manx' passport living in the UK is covered, just as someone with a US passport who was resident in the UK would be.
There is NO legal difference between the passports, it is merely a cosmetic thing.

I'm not sure about UK bank accounts, but I recently looked into UK Premium Bonds (a safe haven!), and the Isle of Man and Channel Islands are both classed as non-UK on the application, and as such, require tortuous KYC documentation (certified copy of passport, letter from tax office, etc), so I gave up. I suspect it would be the same if I wanted to open a UK bank account.
